Strata Advocacy in the Nation’s Capital: SCA Leads the Conversation in Canberra

SCA has advanced its national advocacy agenda with a strategic visit to Canberra, led by SCA Australasia President Joshua Baldwin. Accompanied by Policy and Advocacy Manager Shaun Brockman, Media and Communications Coordinator Nathan Patterson, and Amanda Lynch from Lynchpin Advocacy, the delegation met with Members of Parliament, senior advisors, departmental officials and national media to position strata at the centre of national reform discussions.
With over five million Australians now living in strata, SCA’s core message was clear: strata must be recognised as an essential component of the nation’s housing future. Key reforms discussed included national education standards for strata managers, improved insurance access, inclusion in energy and EV infrastructure programs.
The team met with advisors to the Minister for Small Business, Anne Aly, where they highlighted the economic and employment contributions of the strata sector, which supports over 6,500 jobs across Australia.
A landmark moment came during a face-to-face meeting with Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Chris Bowen. In a highly productive discussion, Minister Bowen confirmed strata’s inclusion in current and future energy efficiency programs, reinforcing SCA’s long-standing call for fair access to sustainability initiatives for strata communities.
President Joshua Baldwin described the meetings as “robust, informed conversations that showed a genuine understanding of the five million Australians who live in strata.”
The delegation also engaged directly with national media in the Press Gallery, sharing insights on necessary reforms and the evolving role of strata in delivering affordable, sustainable housing.
This visit marks a shift in national awareness, with strata no longer being an overlooked sector, but as a key part of the housing and sustainability solution. SCA remains committed to leading the charge, advocating for practical reform, strong professional standards and better outcomes for every Australian living in strata.
With growing momentum and stronger relationships across government and media, SCA is ensuring strata is not just included in the national conversation, it is helping to shape it.
